Breaking: 49ers Wideout Could Be On Trade Block After Latest News

July 16, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After the recent news of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings, the team could trade Brandon Aiyuk instead before the regular season starts. According to breaking reports, Jennings is demanding a new deal while he’s in the final year of his contract, despite his extension last year. He isn’t waiting until next offseason for his new contract and is open for the team to trade him if he doesn’t meet his demands. However, this could force the 49ers to make some decisions quickly as the 2025 offseason has been a busy one of extending talent like quarterback Brock Purdy to a massive deal.

To make room for Jennings, the 49ers might be better off trading Aiyuk to another roster, so they could sign his next contract. Aiyuk hasn’t been living up to expectations last year after being the main athlete in the league stirring drama of meeting his demands of a deal, but he couldn’t live up to the hype after suffering a season-ending injury that season. Aiyuk did admit that he was too hard on the 49ers of getting another deal, so this might trigger the front office to trade him after the rumors have been swirling all last offseason. The 49ers might be better off sending Aiyuk to a new team for a fresh start while keeping Jennings for the future of Purdy’s offense.

Potential Destinations for Aiyuk

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers will be without Mike Williams for a couple of weeks at most, so they will likely be in the market for another wide receiver. Between the 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston, the team is slowly getting weaker in the offensive arsenal for quarterback Justin Herbert. The Chargers will benefit from Aiyuk’s presence one way or another, as the team has been struggling to find its next stellar, consistent receiver.

Aiyuk might have been out for the past year, but he could rejuvenate his career in Los Angeles.

New Orleans Saints

Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints might not be contenders, but it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t invest in their wide receiving corps for the future. Aiyuk’s contract is out of their price range, but general manager Mickey Loomis always finds a way to pinch pennies to make it work. Aiyuk, Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed sound like a sweet deal in New Orleans for whoever wins the starting quarterback job between Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler.

Washington Commanders

Aiyuk was hinting at going to the Washington Commanders before signing his new contract with the 49ers. This move would make sense considering the history that Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel share. They could create a new scenery in Washington as the new duo if Terry McLaurin doesn’t agree to a new deal before the 2025 season.

Dallas Cowboys

This is a long shot, but this would be the crown jewel of trades for Dallas. Perhaps, they could send Jalen Tolbert, who is in his last year of his contract, in exchange for Aiyuk. This would put Dak Prescott in the best spot ever in his career between CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and Aiyuk.
