Despite the Los Angeles Chargers signing him to a one-year deal, Bleacher Report believes there’s a chance that running back Najee Harris could be on the trade block. According to the source, they think Harris will be a viable trade candidate who has a lot of value. Even though head coach Jim Harbaugh wants as many running backs on the depth chart, there’s a good chance that the team will trade Harris either way since they’ve drafted Omarion Hampton in the first round and put a tender to keep J.K. Dobbins. They have at least one running back who could be the starter for this unit, and surprisingly, it might not be Harris.
Originally selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, the former Alabama product came into the league thinking he was the long-term running back for the Steelers offense after having a breakout 2023 campaign. However, it didn’t happen that way since he couldn’t find the same production the following season, since Jaylen Warren was getting some looks in the mix. The running back is still durable, but he might be ready for full-time duties just yet, since the Chargers don’t look to be committed to the new free agent signee. It shouldn’t surprise anyone if the Chargers make Harris available for a trade during the 2025 regular season, as he has topped over 1,000 rushing yards in each four campaigns.

Bleacher Report: Steelers Former First Round Pick Najee Harris On Trade Block – 4 Possible Fits
Next Possible Teams
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys have one of the weakest running back units in the league. Despite signing Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams to boost the competition, neither of them is a surefire starter. The Cowboys took Jaydon Blue in the fifth round of this year’s draft, but it’s hard to imagine he will start. Perhaps, adding Harris to that mix to fight for a starting job makes sense.
New Orleans Saints
Meanwhile, the Saints should be desperate for a running back, even though they have Alvin Kamara, who is one of the best in the NFL. Kamara is still in his prime, but the quarterback situation for the team does not look too good. Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough will battle it out in minicamp, but no matter who becomes the starter, they will likely run the ball to keep them afloat during each game through the 2025 season, and Harris could fit that scheme to help Kamara.
Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers brought in former Cowboys running back Rico Dowdle as a viable replacement for injured 2024 draft pick Jonathan Brooks. No one is taking Chuba Hubbard’s job after his contract extension, but he could use some help in the backfield. Dowdle is only effective in situational moments, while Harris could carry the workload in the red zone.
Washington Commanders
If the Commanders have any weak point in their offense, it’s the running back department. Brian Robinson Jr. is eyeing a breakout season, but he has to work quickly to make that happen, or else there will be a replacement waiting for him. Harris won’t single-handedly save this offense, but it gives quarterback Jayden Daniels another capable weapon to thrive when Austin Ekeler can’t.
