New Orleans Saints star running back Alvin Kamara is questionable to play in Week 9 with an ankle injury. However, while he may be hurt, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says the veteran is “expected to play” against the Los Angeles Rams. It’s important to note this is not official, but assuming the running back doesn’t suffer any setbacks between now and the start of the game, he should be on the field.

Alvin Kamara Injury Update: Saints RB “Expected to Play”
The 2025 season has not been the best for Alvin Kamara, as the five-time Pro Bowler has struggled to do much of anything with inexperienced quarterback play and a poor offensive line. Starting in all eight games, the nine-year veteran enters Week 9 with 363 yards and a touchdown on 100 carries, good for just 3.6 yards per attempt. His efficiency in the passing game took a similar dip, as he’s hauled in 27 passes for just 147 yards. The advanced metrics don’t paint a prettier picture, as his 54.1 PFF grade ranks 51st out of 53 eligible backs, and his 2.98 yards created per touch is 37th.
Assuming Alvin Kamara can play through the injury, he will be on the field for the first start of the Tyler Shough Era. Selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Louisville product spent the early part of the season backing up second-year passer Spencer Rattler. However, he took over midway through last week’s loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and head coach Kellen Moore said Shough will be the starter for the rest of the season. During his two relief appearances, the quarterback has completed 53.1% of his passes for 128 yards, no touchdown, and one interception.
Kamara and the Saints face off against a white-hot Los Angeles Rams team looking to keep pace in their division. Led by MVP candidate Matthew Stafford, New Orleans will face an uphill battle to earn a win.
