A Look Around the NFC South on SB Nation

It’s Russell Gage’s time to shine alongside Calvin Ridley

A weekly look at the top stories being discussed on the other three NFC South blogs on SB Nation.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (via Bucs Nation)

  • Mike Evans restructures deal. The longtime Buccaneer helps the team by freeing some cap room. Regardless, Marshon Lattimore is still going to shut him down twice a year.

  • Bucs add 10 players to their practice squad. Already a perfect team, the perfect Bucs added ten perfect players to their perfect practice squad, which will help them go 17-0 next season. Yes, sarcasm drips heavily from my plume.

  • Bucs report 100% vaccination rate ahead of season opener. Something that is actually perfect about the Bucs. And as much as I like to make fun of them, way to go Tampa Bay.

Atlanta Falcons (via The Falcoholic)

  • Jalen Mayfield may start against Eagles in opener. The Falcons’ biggest question mark (the offensive line) got a hit when presumed started Josh Andrews got hurt. Now rookie Jalen Mayfield may have to get his first NFL start against Philly on the road. Not ideal for Atlanta, thus in New Orleans we love it!

  • Falcons add former Giants running back Wayne Gallman. In a move that eliminated all running backs that were on Atlanta’s roster last season, the Falcons brought in a running back that had some success last season in New York, especially after the injury to Saquon Barkley.

  • Russell Gage has developed into a viable number two wide receiver. After being selected by the Falcons in the 2018 NFL draft, it seems as if the Falcons were just taking a flyer on a gadget player. Four seasons later, Gage has shown improvement few thought possible.

Carolina Panthers (via Cat Scratch Reader)

  • Panthers sign 12 players to their practice squad. These are the guys you might see on an active roster for Carolina (or some other team) sooner or later.

  • Panthers claimed Royce Freeman off waivers. The 4th-year running back had a decent run with the Broncos, but eventually was let go by Denver.

  • David Moore released by Carolina. Once a promising free agent signing at wide receiver, Moore clearly did not impress offensive coordinator Joe Brady and head coach Matt Rhule enough to stick around.
