The New Orleans Saints are coming off a stellar Week 1 blowout win over the Green Bay Packers. But midway through Week 2’s practice schedule, the team is experiencing some serious setbacks.
On Wednesday, the Saints had eight players sit out with injury/illness: cornerback Marshon Lattimore (hand), linebacker Kwon Alexander (elbow), defensive end Marcus Davenport (shoulder), center Erik McCoy (calf), DE Tanoh Kpassagnon (calf), quarterback Trevor Siemian (illness), linebacker Pete Werner (hamstring) and safety P.J. Williams (back).
Defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson (knee) and LB Chase Hansen (groin) were both listed as limited participants.

Of these eight non-participants in today’s practice, four of them are starters: Lattimore, Alexander, Davenport and McCoy.
Lattimore underwent a minor surgery on his hand yesterday to repair a chipped bone in his thumb, potentially setting him up for missed time as he’s “week-to-week” heading into Week 2. He signed a five-year, $97.6 million contract extension earlier this week.
Alexander and Davenport are both set to miss some time following injuries sustained in Week 1 as well.
McCoy played just five snaps before he was knocked out of the game this past Sunday, making way for lineman Cesar Ruiz (who shifted over to take the center position) and practice squad pickup Austin Reiter.
Wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith was placed on the IR with a hamstring injury prior to Week 1.
Despite these injury issues, the Saints will look to notch their second win of the season against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon.
