New Orleans scoops up Rattler after he surprisingly falls to the fifth round.
The New Orleans Saints have selected quarterback Spencer Rattler with the 150th pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Here are five things to know about the newest member of the Saints’ quarterback room.
1. He ranks first in South Carolina football history in career completion percentage
After three years with the Oklahoma Sooners, Rattler’s short tenure in Columbia, South Carolina was one for the record books. In two seasons, he threw for 6,212 yards, 37 touchdowns, and a .675 completion percentage. That 67.5% was the highest career completion percentage in South Carolina history. Throughout his five seasons of college football, Rattler boasts a .685 completion percentage.

2. Rattler had 16 rushing touchdowns in college
Although Rattler is mostly known for his arm strength, he’s not afraid to use his wheels. In total, he ran for 16 touchdowns and 410 yards during his college tenure. His mobility in the pocket is a clear strength and adds an unpredictable element to his game.
3. Mel Kiper and Field Yates predicted he would be drafted in the early third round
Earlier this month, draft experts Mel Kiper and Field Yates participated in a mock draft. The duo predicted that Rattler would be drafted with the 76th pick by the Denver Broncos and that he would have a chance to start over Jarrett Stidham. Lucky for the Saints, the Broncos went with Bo Nix in the first round instead.
4. He starred in the Netflix Show QB1: Beyond the Lights
Rattler is clearly used to the attention and limelight. The show chronicled Rattler as the top quarterback prospect in the recruiting class of 2019. On his 18th birthday, Rattler broke the all-time Arizona passing yards record for a career (10,489).

5. Rattler is the first Saints’ quarterback prospect born in the 21st century
Don’t worry, it’s ok to feel old. Spencer Rattler was born on Sept. 28, 2000. He graduated from Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, Ariz. in 2019. Yet somehow, he is old enough to have played a few snaps in Oklahoma’s 2019 playoff game against the LSU Tigers.
