5 NFL Teams That Should Sign QB Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy Garoppolo’s brief stint with the Las Vegas Raiders is expected to come to an end this Wednesday.

Garoppolo signed a three year, $72.75 million contract with the Raiders last offseason. In seven games this past season, he completed 65.1 percent of his pass attempts for 1,205 yards with seven touchdowns and nine interceptions

According to Diana Russini of The Athletic, Garoppolo is expected to hit the open market once the new league year begins.

Luckily for Garoppolo, there are a handful of teams in the NFL that need to add a veteran to their quarterback room.

Chicago Bears

A return to Illinois could be in the cards for Jimmy Garoppolo, who played college football at Eastern Illinois.

The Bears are expected to select Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft. They’re also expected to move on from Justin Fields, albeit his trade market is as quiet as a film from the late 1890s.

If the Bears move on from Fields and draft Williams, they’ll need a veteran quarterback on their depth chart. Garoppolo would fit right in, even though his chances of starting would be low.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos could be in the market for a veteran quarterback, especially after cutting Russell Wilson. While signing Jimmy Garoppolo wouldn’t solve everything, he could serve as the bridge to their next long-term starter.

It’s also possible Broncos head coach Sean Payton could get the best out of Garoppolo, similar to the way Kyle Shanahan maximized his potential in San Francisco.

Tennessee Titans

Titans general manager Ran Carthon was in San Francisco from 2017-2022. For better or worse, he knows what Garoppolo can and can’t do on the gridiron.

The Titans could very well enter training camp with Will Levis and Malik Willis as their top options in the quarterback room. In the event they’re not comfortable with those two unproven quarterbacks, they should sign Garoppolo.

New Orleans Saints

Derek Carr is the unquestioned starter for the Saints next season. The depth behind him, however, leaves a lot to be desired.

Jake Haener could develop this summer, but he’s unproven at this point. With Jameis Winston no longer on the roster, the Saints may have to make an offer to Garoppolo.

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts were actually linked to Garoppolo during the 2023 offseason. They ultimately decided to sign Gardner Minshew and draft Anthony Richardson.

Now that Minshew is gone, the Colts could be in the market for a veteran quarterback to sit behind Richardson in case of emergency. Garoppolo would be able to fill that void.
