5 NFL Teams Named Landing Spots For Cam Newton

For the second year in a row, Cam Newton’s future in the NFL is up in the air. On Tuesday, the New England Patriots stunned the rest of the league by releasing the former MVP from their roster.

Newton is no longer the player he once was, but there are still a few teams in the NFL that could use his services this season.

In fact, NFL insider Jason La Canfora recently listed five teams that could be potential landing spots for Newton. Those five teams are the Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

La Canfora admit that Tampa Bay probably won’t make a run at Newton, but he thinks that pairing would produce an excellent storyline.

“I mean what is this team winning if Blaine Gabbert had to take over for any extended period of time? Bruce Arians could find a way or two to deploy Cam. And if you want to go a winner, you couldn’t do any better than this outfit,” La Canfora wrote, via CBS Sports. “It would be a heck of a storyline if nothing else. I think Cam could rock some creamsicle, don’t you?”

The Falcons might make the most sense for Newton out of all the teams that La Canfora listed. If Matt Ryan gets hurt at any point this season, they would need to rely on either Feleipe Franks or Josh Rosen.

As for the whole “Cam Newton doesn’t want to be a backup quarterback” narrative, Shannon Sharpe debunked that theory on Wednesday.

“I talked to someone close to Cam, and what I was told is that Cam would not have a problem being a backup,” Sharpe said on FS1’s Undisputed. “He says, ‘I don’t want that out there that Cam is opposed to being a backup. Cam wants to get into a good situation, and we’ll go from there, we’ll take it from there.’”

Where would you like to see Newton end up this season?
