4 Teams That Could Sign Released First-Round Pick

July 22, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The Seattle Seahawks cut tight end Noah Fant, but the former first-round pick will find a new team before long. A first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Iowa product spent the past three seasons in Seattle after starting his career with the Denver Broncos. While he never reached his ceiling as an athletically gifted dual threat, he’s a solid receiving threat who can make a living as the third option in a passing attack. While he won’t make a Pro Bowl any time soon, he’s a starting-caliber tight end, and the following teams could land him in the coming days.

4 Teams That Could Sign Noah Fant After Seahawks Cut

Possible Fits

Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins traded for Darren Waller after offloading Jonnu Smith, but they shouldn’t put too much faith in the 32-year-old tight end. While Waller was a dangerous threat at his peak, he missed the 2024 season and looked like a shell of himself in 2022 and 2023. Seeing as the Seahawks cut him, the Dolphins can easily add Noah Fant to the roster and bring him in to compete with Waller.

Kansas City Chiefs

Travis Kelce is back for one more season, but the Kansas City Chiefs must start thinking about the future. The eventual Hall of Famer looked like a shell of himself last year, and he probably won’t find the Fountain of Youth between now and the start of the season. Noah Fant is not capable of matching Kelce’s production, but he’s a solid receiving tight end, and his presence could ease the burden on one of Kansas City’s greatest players.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers have one of the weakest tight end rooms in football, and head coach Jim Harbaugh must do something about this before the start of the season. While Harbaugh wants to win games in the trenches, quarterback Justin Herbert doesn’t have the offensive pieces to go blow-for-blow with the elite passing attacks of the AFC. Noah Fant won’t completely close the gap between the Chargers’ pass catchers and the Cincinnati Bengals, but competent receivers combined with an elite defense and above-average coaching could lead this team to a deep playoff run.

New Orleans Saints

Second-round pick Tyler Shough signed his rookie contract, which only increases his odds of being the Week 1 starter. While nobody expects the quarterback to guide this flawed roster to the playoffs, New Orleans needs to give him the tools to succeed. Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed are an adequate receiving duo when healthy, but both players carry injury risks. While Juwan Johnson isn’t the worst tight end in the league, Noah Fant will add some much-needed stability to the room following his Seahawks cut. Tight ends can be the lifelife for rookie quarterbacks, and Fant could play an instrumental role in Shough’s young career.
