The first 2 rounds of Dylan’s first Saints mock draft on Canal St. Chronicles.

There are a lot of storylines to look at in this upcoming offseason for the New Orleans Saints. But what my eyes go to first, is the NFL draft. Is there a potential replacement quarterback available? Do they need to replace Marcus Williams? What offensive lineman will the Saints draft first? There are so many scenarios I have already played out in my head. So here is my first mock draft of this off-season here on Canal St. Chronicles:

Round 1, Pick 28: Rondale Moore, Wide Receiver, Purdue

I would be remiss if I didn’t start out the 2021 off-season with the player I have been begging for the Saints for two years now. Anyone that talks draft with me is probably tired of hearing this name. Moore is mainly known for his 2018 season, where he finished with 1,400 scrimmage yards with 14 scrimmage touchdowns and 662 punt return yards. That season alone was enough to put him on the Big Ten All-Decade Team. He was hurt for most of the last two seasons and was set to opt out of this season, however he did end up playing for three games in 2020. And in only 3 games he accrued 35 catches for 270 yards. Whenever he is on the field, he produces. He is small, but is strong and outplays his size. His swiss army knife and after the catch ability is what I believe makes him an ideal candidate for a Sean Payton offense. I’d argue that for what Payton likes to do on offense, Rondale Moore has a case to be first on the Saints draft board at the wide receiver position.

Round 2, Pick 60: Asante Samuel Jr, CB, Florida St

Yes, this is the son of former All-Pro and Pro Bowl corner Asante Samuel, and yes you are old now. As much as we love Janoris Jenkins, a move to get a cornerback in the first two rounds would give the Saints some more freedom and depth to cut Jenkins and free up some cap flexibility. Asante Samuel Jr. is currently sitting at CB4 in this class for me. He has played and done well both outside and inside for Florida State. The Saints could see him move around in the secondary if need be or stick to playing outside. We know how much the Saints value versatility in their players. He is considered to be under-sized for the corner position, but makes up for it in athleticism. He plays better in man than zone, but has a good bit of experience in both. He was able to put up a very good year of film and numbers despite the shortened season in NCAA. He finished his career at FSU with 4 interceptions and 29 passes defended.

Ready to feel old? Asante Samuel Jr. is eligible for the 2021 draft, and he’s REALLY good.

He started off this season with an interception. He’s got some real tools to be a Day 2 pick or higher. pic.twitter.com/N6bCf2WLRh

Feel free to comment who would like to see here in future mock drafts, and who you want to see in the mid round portion of this mock draft!
