With the 2025 All-Star Game beginning a new tournament-style format, Stephen Curry was named the All-Star Game MVP. He secured the honors with the game being played in his home arena, the Chase Center. Curry is the latest to win MVP honors while the game is taking place in the player’s home arena. Here are the most recent instances of it occurring, since 1988.

Players Who Won NBA All-Star Game MVP In Their Home Arena
2025 – Stephen Curry – Chase Center (Golden State Warriors)
Stephen Curry won his second All-Star Game MVP in four years in the first year which the All-Star Game switched to tournament fashion. Part of Team Shaq, Curry scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds in the semifinals win over Team Candace. His squad defeated Team Chuck in the finals, and the four-time NBA champion finished with 12 points, four rebounds, and two steals.
2017 – Anthony Davis, Smoothie King Center (New Orleans Pelicans)
While the talk surrounding Anthony Davis today certainly involves the Luka Doncic trade, he was the talk of the 2017 NBA All-Star Game. He scored a then All-Star game record 52 points (Jayson Tatum scored 55 in 2023). Just 23 years old at the time, Davis put on a show for the Pelicans fans, as he added 10 rebounds while shooting 26-39 from the field.
2011 – Kobe Bryant – Staples Center (Los Angeles Lakers)
As the Western Conference pulled out the win, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant combined for 71 of the West’s 148 points. Bryant had 37 while also adding 10 offensive rebounds. The Lakers legend had double figure scoring totals in each of the first three quarters.
2009 – Shaquille O’Neal – U.S. Airways Center (Phoenix Suns)
This was Shaquille O’Neal’s only All-Star appearance while with Phoenix. While O’Neal was nearly 37 years old at the time and past his prime, he was named All-Star Game MVP (along with Kobe Bryant) despite playing just 11 minutes. In his brief time on the court, he scored 17 points, grabbed five rebounds, and dished out three assists.
2004 – Shaquille O’Neal – Staples Center (Los Angeles Lakers)
The second of three All-Star Game MVPs that O’Neal won, ‘The Diesel’ scored 24 points in a close four-point win by the Western Conference. He shot 12-19 from the field while also putting up 11 rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. This was his last season with the Lakers, as he was traded to the Miami Heat in the following offseason.
1993 – Karl Malone & John Stockton – Delta Center (Utah Jazz)
The famous pick-and-roll duo of Karl Malone and John Stockton were teammates on the Jazz for 18 seasons from 1985-86 until 2002-03. It took overtime for the West to defeat the East, and the two all-time Utah greats certainly helped to secure the win for their conference. ‘The Mailman’ scored 28 points on 11-17 shooting while also finishing with 10 rebounds and two blocks. The all-time leader in assists, Stockton further showcased his passing abilities by dishing out 15 assists.
1988 – Michael Jordan – Chicago Stadium (Chicago Bulls)
The previous night, Michael Jordan won his second straight Slam Dunk Contest. He then added to his spectacular 1988 All-Star Weekend by being named the game’s MVP. He scored 40 points in the Eastern Conference’s five-point win, including 16 of those coming in the final 5:30 of the fourth quarter. Ten days shy of his 25th birthday, he also added eight rebounds, four steals, and four blocks.
