The New Orleans Pelicans have fired head coach Willie Green. New Orleans made the move with the team sitting at 2-10 on the season, including four consecutive losses.
It was recently reported that Pelicans governor Gayle Benson had given front office leader Joe Dumars full control over Green’s future. Benson reportedly had told Dumars that Green was to stay head coach, when Dumars replaced David Griffin atop the front office hierarchy.
Green went 150-190 in four-plus season as the Pelicans head coach. He led the team to two playoff appearances in 2022 and 2024.
It was recently reported that the Pelicans blocked assistant coach James Borrego from taking other assistant coaching jobs around the NBA. The belief is that this was done in case New Orleans wanted to install Borrego as their interim head coach to replace Green.
