Midseason NBA All-Rookie Teams For 2024-25 Season

January 18, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

Through games played on January 16, every NBA team has played anywhere between 37-42 contests. Therefore, it is basically the midway point of the season. Let’s take a look at the midseason All-Rookie teams for the 2024-25 season. Keep in mind that NBA All-Rookie teams are now positionless. This is not a prediction on how the All-Rookie teams will turn out, it is just looking at what has occurred thus far on the season.

Players are named in alphabetical order by last name. The toughest omissions were Ryan Dunn of the Suns and Ajay Mitchell of the Thunder.

Midseason NBA All-Rookie Teams For 2024-25 Season

First Team

  • Stephon Castle, Spurs

A national champion with the UConn Huskies, Castle has been in the starting lineup more often than not for a much-improved Spurs team. While the efficiency hasn’t been fully there (48.0% on two-pointers, 25.2% on three-pointers), Castle has possessed defensive chops at a young age.

  • Zach Edey, Grizzlies

Named the national player of the year each of the last two seasons at Purdue, there were question marks on whether Edey would be too slow at the next level. He has answered some of those doubts and started 20 of his 27 appearances for a Memphis team that is currently third in the West. The 7-foot-4 center has four double-doubles and has shot 58.0% from the field.

  • Jared McCain, 76ers

Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely that McCain will be on an end-of-season All-Rookie team. Prior to McCain undergoing meniscus surgery which is a season-ender, he looked to be the favorite for Rookie of the Year. In his 23 games, he averaged 15.3 points while shooting 38.3% from beyond the arc.

  •  Alex Sarr, Wizards

The 7-foot Sarr has shown improvement as the season has gone along. After shooting just 24.4% from beyond the arc in his first 19 outings, that has improved to 40.0% over his last 16. The 2024 second overall pick currently leads all rookies with his 1.6 blocks per game.

  • Jaylen Wells, Grizzlies

A second round pick (39th overall), Wells has had more of an impact than even the most optimistic supporters of his expected. The 21-year-old hasn’t missed a game and has started each of the Grizzlies last 36 outings. Wells has reached double-digit scoring totals in 25 of 41 contests.

Second Team

  • Carlton Carrington, Wizards

Mostly utilized as a starter, Carrington has better than a 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio on the season. The three-point shot hasn’t been fully there (33.7%), but expect that to improve as he has proven to be reliable from the midrange and free-throw line (80.6%).

  • Tristan Da Silva, Magic

Partially due to injuries from Paolo Banchero (recently returned) and Franz Wagner, Da Silva has been thrust into a larger role. Making 31 starts, the German forward has averages of 8.6 points and 4.1 rebounds.

  • Dalton Knecht, Lakers

While his playing time has decreased a bit especially after the Lakers acquired Dorian Finney-Smith, Knecht has still averaged nearly double figures in scoring (9.4). In a stretch of nine games from November 13-29, the 6-foot-6 forward averaged 18.9 points on 52.2% from three-point range (36-69).

  • Yves Missi, Pelicans

While the Pelicans have been a huge disappointment in large part due to a massive amount of injuries, Missi has been a bright spot on a team that looked to have a hole at center. The 21st overall pick leads all rookies with his eight double-doubles.

  • Zaccharie Risacher, Hawks

The first overall pick, Risacher has had his inconsistencies, but also his moments where he has shown his immense potential. A 33-point outing against the Knicks has been an outlier though thus far on the season, as the 19-year-old hasn’t scored more than 18 in any other game.
