LeBron James: I don’t go to the NBA Finals in 2006 if I’m not able to make them believe that they’re greater than what they are

April 1, 2025 by Hoops Hype

LeBron James: I’ve always loved the players who breathe so much confidence into their teammates, who make them believe that they’re actually better than what the [__] they really are. Luka has done that for seven years. Chris Paul did that when he was down in New Orleans—doing that for that team down there. I’ve been able to do that with a few of my teams. I mean, I don’t go to the NBA Finals in 2006 with that Cleveland team if I’m not able to make them believe that they’re greater than what they are, and just give them that confidence.”

What’s the buzz on Twitter?

LeBron has played 38 minutes in four of his last five and 39 in the other. And he’s 40 years old.
Meanwhile, Zion’s season is over again and Embiid’s season ended weeks ago. In theory, those two would fall under the category of rested, not tired, for the playoffs. – 7:10 PM

With a 104-98 Lakers victory, they’re now 1-1 vs. Houston this year, and can secure the tiebreaker with a win in the April 11 rematch in LA.
Six big 3’s apiece from DFS + Vincent resulted from Houston’s determination to send extra attention to Luka/LeBron/Reaves. – 12:46 AM
Dave McMenamin @mcten
The Lakers validate their strong win in Memphis with a great win against the surging Rockets, 104-98, to start homestand. HOU came in winners of 12 of their last 13 and LAL’s defense held them to 41.6% shooting. Luka 20p 9a 6r; DFS 20p 6r; Gabe 20p; LeBron 16p 8r; AR 12p 8r. – 12:31 AM

LeBron went up like a WR to secure a key inbounds pass, then hit the ensuing FT’s after Thompson wrapped him up to put LA up 102-98 with 11.1 to play. – 12:26 AM
Kamenetzky Brothers @KamBrothers
Jordan Goodwin goes from turning down a three that he should have shot to tracking down the three that was missed by LeBron, and getting the offensive rebound/putback. That’s incredible (and redemptive) effort. AK – 10:40 PM

Excellent defensive stretch here from the Lakers with their small ball unit, with the low man (often LeBron) impacting the Rockets inside.
Lakers went on a 9-0 run to take a 12-9 lead. – 10:18 PM

Good one about to start in LA. Lakers wing stars vs. Houston’s waves of athletic wing defenders. LeBron vs. Dillon Brooks. Playoff seeding at stake. Neither team downplaying importance of this one. – 10:04 PM

More on this storyline

LeBron James: “I’m very smart when it comes to the game of basketball (…) When I know it’s for the betterment of the team, and ultimately for us to reach our goal. I’m able to adapt to whatever position that needs to be done.” -via YouTube / April 1, 2025
LeBron James: Well first of all, I mean—I gotta give a big, big shoutout and credit to Jaxson Hayes, man. *Him stepping into that void after losing AD? That’s a lot.* That’s a lot of scoring, a lot of defensive protection, a lot of rebounding, a lot of blocked shots. But I think Jaxson was like, ‘I can’t make up for that,’ and we didn’t ask him to. We needed Jaxson to bring high energy, to be a force on offense—run the floor, set great screens, be a lob threat. But he’s just made great decisions. He’s been able to catch it in the pocket, stay balanced, either dunk it home or find guys on the perimeter. -via YouTube / April 1, 2025
LeBron James: Losing Anthony Davis, who’s a Defensive Player of the Year candidate every year—it was one of two things for us. When we lost him, it was either: Be the worst defensive team in the league, Or say, ‘Oh [__], we don’t have AD to cover our asses—so now we’ve got to play even harder.’ We’ve got to cover for one another. We can’t rely on a blow-by every time, then a low man, and then AD coming out of nowhere to block the shot. It has to be a team effort. We have to be on a string in order to get stops. We know the NBA is a game of offense—how the game is read, how it’s played—it favors the offense. But defense, and timely stops, matter. If you can get one or two stops—or three stops in a row in crunch time—you can crack a game open. -via YouTube / April 1, 2025
