The New York Knicks are looking for backcourt depth heading into trade season. New York would like another point guard for their rotation. One player the Knicks have their eyes on is Jose Alvarado of the New Orleans Pelicans.
There isn’t an indication that New Orleans is looking to trade Alvarado just yet. However, the Pelicans are known to be open to listening to offers for their veteran players.
The Knicks are currently a bit more than $148 thousand below their second-apron hard cap. That makes acquiring a player a tight fit for the New York. One of the reasons Alvarado could be an attractive target for the Knicks is that he makes just $4.5 million this season, with a $4.5 million player option for next season.
His low salary makes Alvarado someone that the Knicks could acquire, while possibly even getting off some money themselves. The Pelicans are $1.9 million below the luxury tax, which is a line they will not exceed this season.
