Fischer: ‘We are not going to be hearing Trae Young’s name on the trade block’

April 29, 2025 by Hoops Hype

Jake Fischer: My current read right now is that we are not going to be hearing Trae Young’s name on the trade block — with Kevin Durant, with potentially whatever fallout could come from Milwaukee, or with Zion Williamson and the Pelicans moving forward. The Hawks have this young core of wings who all kind of need the ball put into their hands in the right positions.

Rewatching the 4th quarter and a thought that occurred to me: If Steve Kerr can take Stephen Curry out of the game for defense, then Ty Lue can take out James Harden and any other coach should be able to take out any other star. I mean, Quin Snyder leaves Trae Young in sometimes! – 3:17 AM

Adam Silver’s play-in idea was financially brilliant, in terms of revenue creation&leaving more fan bases engaged. But that (and off nights from Coby White and Trae) subjected the Heat to national humiliation, cost them the 11th pick and kept them from having 4 tradable 1sts. – 10:04 PM

Rumors will fly, but Trae Young reportedly likely to return to the Hawks next season
Even if the new lead basketball exec wants to trade him, Young’s trade market would be soft. Whether they extend his contract this summer is another question.

Heat down 18 and looking lost. I sincerely hope the very smart and highly accomplished people in the Heat front office don’t look at play-in wins (when Coby, Trae were off) and April win in Boston and say nearly all of this team deserves training camp, full season. Would be 6-17 – 1:53 PM

More on this storyline

Questions about their futures with their current teams are already in circulation and it’s not even May yet. Atlanta’s Trae Young? The noise on that front, compared to the chatter bubbling in Atlanta after the Hawks’ 2023-24 season ended, has noticeably quieted down. -via marcstein.substack.com / April 28, 2025

Is that worth going out multiple years on a max extension? Or is it time to cut bait, recoup some value and build around the other young guys in Atlanta, even if the Hawks don’t control their picks? Chatter has picked up that the Hawks might choose the latter course. However, it takes two to tango in any trade. The confounding issue in any Young scenario is that the market for him doesn’t seem to be all that hot. Indeed, that perhaps explains why it was Murray and not Young who was sent to the Pelicans in the 2024 offseason. If the Hawks were hoping for a Mikal Bridges or Rudy Gobert-level return for Young, it’s probably not happening. It might be more in Brandon Ingram territory. Are they at a point where they’re OK with that? -via New York Times / April 23, 2025
