Top Prospect To Miss Rookie Season: NFL World Reacts

March 24, 2022 by The Spun Leave a Comment

A general view of the stage at the NFL Draft.

On Thursday afternoon, the football world learned that a top prospect in the 2022 NFL Draft might miss his rookie season.

According to a new report, former LSU standout Damone Clark is set to undergo surgery today. As a result of his injury he will “most likely” miss his rookie campaign.

“Former LSU LB Damone Clark is undergoing spinal fusion surgery today after an MRI at the combine revealed a herniated disk, per sources,” NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported. “One of the top linebackers in this year’s NFL Draft, Clark most likely will miss his rookie season, but is expected to make a full recovery.”

It’s a tough blow for a talented player. Analysts are already predicting his stock to drop, though believe he should still be drafted.

“Ouch. Bad situation for an LB with a Rd2 grade for me. Like his game. Talent is there. feel like he’ll still be drafted and stashed. Possible could fall to UDFA. Would love to see him with Chiefs,” one analyst said.

Other reporters noted he shined at the Senior Bowl.

“That sucks. Clark played well at the Senior Bowl, thought he’d be a good fit for the Lions,” Lions reporter Dave Birkett said.

“Oh wow. That sounds serious for Clark, who was projected as a top 100 pick. Hate seeing stuff like this,” said another reporter.

Hopefully Clark can make a full recovery for the 2023 season.
