NCAA Basketball: Georgia at Louisiana State

LSU goes for its fourth straight win Tuesday night

The LSU men’s basketball team has been on a roll lately.

The Tigers have won three in a row, all in convincing fashion. Last week LSU beat Mississippi State at The Hump by 14 points, and spent the past two Saturdays running Tennessee and Auburn off the floor. That’s three wins, by an average margin of 17 points, including scoring a season-best 104 points against Auburn.

But momentum can be undone by one bad night and LSU takes its winning streak to Athens for a rematch with the Georgia Bulldogs that very nearly beat the Tigers in the PMAC.

LSU escaped with a 94-92 overtime win over Georgia back on January 6 and were down 10 points with nine minutes to play in regulation.

“We’re a lot further along since the last time we’ve played them, but they’re a lot further along as well,” Will Wade said. “We’re going to have to get back in transition, limit our live ball turnovers, and block them out.”

LSU struggled in all three of those areas in the first game. Georgia had 28 fast break points, to 3, turned 16 Tiger turnovers into 23 points, and out-rebounded LSU 43-40.

Georgia has struggled since its near-upset of LSU. The Dawgs are 6-7 since the first meeting and has dropped three of its last four. But Georgia is 11-3 at home and has won its last three inside Stegman Coliseum, highlighted by a 10-point win over Missouri last Tuesday.

LSU can’t afford to look ahead to Saturday’s critical game against Arkansas. A loss to a middling Georgia team would negate the good work Will Wade and his players have done the last two weeks.

Tipoff is set for 6:00 P.M., and will be carried on SEC Network.
