One of the most-surprising results of college football’s Week 1 slate came at the Rose Bowl on Saturday evening.
LSU, the No. 16 team in the country, was upset by Chip Kelly’s UCLA Bruins. The Tigers fell on the road, 38-27, on Saturday night.
It’s been a tough post-national championship reign for Ed Orgeron’s program. LSU went 5-5 last year and is off to a poor start this year.
ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum says he’s “worried.”
“UCLA has got some real potential, but I’m worried about LSU. … They’ve got problems across the board, especially with these new coordinators, who looked clueless,” Finebaum said on the “College Football Live” podcast, per 247Sports.
Finebaum added that nothing is more overhyped than LSU’s defense.
“Nothing gets more overhyped than the LSU defense,” Finebaum said. “Their run defense got gashed. I didn’t expect that to happen. Stingley looked pedestrian at times. I think because of Nick Saban we think you can switch coordinators and not have a drop off. It affected him a couple years ago. Just think about LSU for a second. If you rank the tough games on LSU’s schedule, UCLA was nowhere near the top. They have to go to Alabama. They have Florida, which we don’t know much about yet. Naturally, they have an Auburn team that gutted them last year. They’ve got Texas A&M on the road. Who knows?”
LSU will look to notch its first win of the season on Saturday against McNeese State.
