With Billy Napier and Lincoln Riley off the table, the LSU coaching search goes on.
The Tigers reportedly put all their eggs in the Riley basket, only for the former OU coach to emphatically deny rumors he was going to Baton Rouge and head for the other LA. Now the clock’s ticking.
ESPN’s Paul Finebaum weighed in on LSU’s situation on Sunday. Telling Matt Barrie he’s heard two names come up for the job.
“I’m not going to be the next head coach of LSU.” L. Riley

“You still hear Dave Aranda’s name, even though he’s reportedly getting a new deal,” Finebaum said. “And beyond that I don’t know if there’s a surprise, because you don’t know if he can go back to someone who maybe we thought was off the board.”
Aranda served as LSU’s defensive coordinator from 2016-2019.
“But I thought it was interesting …” Finebaum continued.
So this coaching hire is going about like the last one for LSU, when they were jilted by Tom Herman & Jimbo Fisher and wound up hiring Orgeron.
This time, they’ve been turned down by Lincoln Riley, Dave Aranda & Mel Tucker. Who do they wind up with?

“Mark Stoops’ name was out there as well, but with all due respect to Mark Stoops, I don’t think that’s the whale that we all gave Scott Woodward credit for reeling in.”
It’ll be interesting to see where the Tigers turn for their next head coach. With time running out, LSU needs to make something happen and make it happen in a hurry.
