NFLSU Gamethread: Week 14

Good morning, welcome to week 14 of the NFL season.

Well after last night’s batshit crazy ending to the Florida game I think we’re all in need of a chaser. Fortunately NFL games are nowhere near as stupid as college games so this should mellow you out.

Michael Brockers had himself a hell of a game Thursday night, picking up two sacks and two tackles for loss. The Rams, who are starting to scare me as a Saints fan, shutdown the Patriots 24-3 and are well on their way to returning to the postseason.

TEXANS vs. BEARS, 12:00 P.M., CBS

Sure Barkevious Mingo is on the Bears but ehhhh you can skip this.

COWBOYS vs. BENGALS, 12:00 P.M., FOX

Sigh…

CHIEFS vs. DOLPHINS, 12:00 P.M., CBS

Probably the best game of the early slate and a possible playoff preview. The Chiefs are rolling and the Dolphins are on the rise thanks to Brian Flores and a fantastic defense.

CARDINALS vs. GIANTS, 12:00 P.M., FOX

Two teams heading in opposite directions. The Cardinals have dropped four of their last five—and were a Kyler Murray Hail Mary away from five straight losses—while the Giants have won four in a row. Sure the Giants are 5-7 and in the laughable NFC East, but four of those losses were by eight points or less. I don’t know if New York is good per se, but they’re playing well lately which makes them better than good. It makes them frisky.

VIKINGS vs. BUCCANEERS, 12:00 P.M., FOX

Justin Jefferson continues to shine in Minnesota and seems to be the favorite to win Rookie of the Year. Jefferson has 61 catches for 1,039 yards (fourth in the NFL) and seven touchdowns (tied for seventh).

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert remains the betting favorite but L.A.’s a putrid 3-9 and the Vikings have climbed all the way back into the final playoff spot in the NFC. Jefferson’s the rookie of the year, don’t overthink it.

Also if I can put my Saints cap on, if Jefferson has another awesome game and the Vikings beat Tampa then the Saints win the NFC South so go Vikings.

BRONCOS vs. PANTHERS, 12:00 P.M., CBS

Bleh. This game was more fun when it was the Super Bowl and even that wasn’t a very good Super Bowl.

TITANS vs. JAGUARS, 12:00 P.M., CBS

The Titans had it taken to them last week by Cleveland but they’re still clinging to first place in the AFC South. And I don’t know, maybe it’s because I don’t listen to Nashville radio, but it feels like nobody here is really all that vested in the Titans playoff run and are instead focusing on the start of the NHL season. Go Preds by the way.

COLTS vs. RAIDERS, 3:05 P.M., CBS

A pseudo elimination game but it’s lacking on any real LSU presence. Foster Moreau hasn’t had a pass thrown his way since November 1 and Arden Key only has seven tackles this season. The Colts of course don’t have any LSU players on their roster. But if you like football this is probably the most important game of the afternoon slate.

JETS vs. SEAHAWKS, 3:05 P.M., CBS

Jamal Adams goes up against his former team and after Seattle laid an egg against the other New York team last week, I’m not expecting a repeat performance by the Seahawks.

PACKERS vs. LIONS, 3:25 P.M., FOX

No LSU players no care.

SAINTS vs. EAGLES, 3:25 P.M., FOX

Let’s remember the last time Jalen Hurts played a Louisiana team. Hurts gets the start for the Eagles who are a 7.5 underdog. The last time Jalen Hurts was an underdog? Also the Chick Fil A Bowl!

FALCONS vs. CHARGERS, 3:25 P.M., FOX

I said that NFL games aren’t as stupid as college games but if anyone can make you think you’re watching a Sunday afternoon edition of #Pac12AfterDark it’s the Falcons and Chargers.

WASHINGTON vs. 49ERS, 3:25 P.M., FOX

No LSU players no care

STEELERS vs. BILLS, 7:20 P.M., NBC

This would be a lot more fun with Bills fans in the stand. Damn you COVID.

RAVENS vs. BROWNS, Monday December 14, 7:15 P.M., ESPN

This is quite literally the best Cleveland Browns team of my life and it’s jarring.
