LSU hosts Auburn

After a week off, LSU is back on the court

Apologies for the lack of #content this week. Men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball and softball all had their schedules impacted in some way, shape or form due to the crazy weather this week. There wasn’t a whole lot to write about and I was snowed in all week long. But, barring another polar vortex, we should be back!

It’s been a hectic week for the LSU men’s basketball team.

The Tigers had an opening on their schedule for Wednesday that was filled by Ole Miss, only for that game to be pushed back to Thursday due to weather. But inclement weather forced that game to be called off, meaning Will Wade’s team has had a full week off since upsetting Tennessee last Saturday.

In its way is an Auburn team that has fallen on hard times. Losers of four of five, Auburn isn’t quite the team that’s been finishing at the top of the SEC the last few seasons. At 11-11 overall and 5-8 in league play, Auburn’s currently in 10th place.

But Auburn isn’t devoid of talent and, like LSU, has a future first round pick on its hands in Sharife Cooper.

Cooper, like Cam Thomas, was a five-star, top-20 player coming out of high school. But Cooper had to miss the first 12 games of Auburn’s season while the NCAA investigated that status of his eligibility. But Cooper was cleared in January and has lived up to his five-star billing, leading Auburn in scoring and assists with 19 points and 8 assists a game. Cooper projects as a borderline lottery pick assuming he declares for the 2021 NBA Draft.

Though Auburn has been on a losing skid, they’ve been awfully close in those games. The War Eagles lost by two to Kentucky, two to Ole Miss in overtime, and five points to Georgia. The lone double-digit loss was at Baylor and come on, it’s Baylor. They’re undefeated and No. 2 in the nation for a reason.

What I’m saying is this game gives me the heebie jeebies and while LSU’s avoided the bad loss this season, this screams trap game. It wouldn’t shock me in the slightest to see an LSU basketball team, fresh off a major win, to immediately lay an egg.

Tipoff is set for 3:00 P.M. and will be broadcasted on ESPN. And hey since baseball’s back you multi-screen people can have baseball on the primary and basketball on the secondary.
