The best in the boot stay in the boot
LSU’s 2026 recruiting class just picked up the crown jewel in Louisiana.
Five-star athlete Lamar Brown from right here in Baton Rouge announced Thursday afternoon on SportCenter that he’ll be staying home and committing to the Tigers. Brown picked LSU over a final four of Texas, Texas A&M, and Miami, though in reality it was a two-team race between the Tigers and the Aggies.
Brown is a consensus top-10 overall prospect in the country and ranked as the No. 1 athlete in the class. He plays along the offensive and defensive lines for U-High but says he wants to play defense at the next level. Brown also competes in track and field and won state titles in the shot-put and the discuss.
Brown is the No. 7 overall prospect per the On3 composite rankings, while ESPN has him as the No. 1. He’s listed at 6’4” and 285 pounds, but his head coach at U-High Andy Martin said yesterday in an interview with 104.5 that Brown’s closer to 6’5” and pushing 300 pounds.
If the recruiting services are to be believed, Brown is viewed as the best defensive lineman the state of Louisiana has ever produced. Not Maason Smith, not Marcus Spears, not Glenn Dorsey, but Brown.
It’s been a while since LSU’s had elite level defensive linemen. They’ve had really good players up front, sure, but in the here and now the future seems bright. It looks like you’ve hit on Ahmad Breaux and Dom McKinley; Gabe Reliford flashed in 2024 and looks to take the next step in 2025; and now you’ve got two five-star defensive linemen committed in 2026: Brown and Richard Anderson out of Edna Karr.
LSU now has the No. 5 recruiting class in the country, behind USC, Georgia, Texas A&M, and Notre Dame. LSU has 16 commitments, well behind the other top-four. The current top-four have anywhere from nine to 16 more commits than LSU.
