Kirk Herbstreit Blasts The Current State Of LSU Football

October 16, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Kirk Herbstreit looks on at the Chick-Fil-A kickoff.

Two years ago, LSU was on top of the college football world. Now, the program is a shell of its former self.

The Tigers are 3-3 heading into Week 7 of the 2021 season, dropping back-to-back games to the Auburn Tigers and Kentucky Wildcats.

During this Saturday’s edition of College GameDay, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit shared his thoughts on the current state of LSU football. It’s safe to say he’s disappointed in the way the Tigers have performed this year.

“What I see is individuality,” Herbstreit said. “I see guys that quit. I see guys that don’t want to play for the LSU brand. That’s very new. You can go as far back as you want to with LSU – they might not win all of their games, but they’re going to play hard for each other. That’s not the case anymore.

“LSU does not play hard. That the new LSU. It’s got to kill their alums because it’s such a proud bunch but that’s the reality, and I don’t know how you change it. If you’ve got to change coaches, you change coaches. Whatever you’ve got to do. LSU has to get back to having some pride in their program.”

LSU’s struggles have led to reports about Ed Orgeron potentially being on the hot seat.

With the first half of the 2021 season in the books, it’s imperative that LSU shows some fight over the next two months. If not, the program may decide to completely overhaul its staff.
