Kim Mulkey Was Asked If Seimone Augustus Could Replace Her At LSU

Kim Mulkey recently added LSU legend Seimone Augustus to her coaching staff in Baton Rouge.

Augustus was a two-time All-American and won multiple national player of the year awards as a senior at LSU. During her career from 2002-06, she led the Tigers to three-straight Final Fours.

Following a decorated WNBA career in which she won four championships and made eight All-Star teams, Augustus began her coaching career with the Los Angeles Sparks.

Now, she’s back at her alma mater, with some people wondering if Augustus will one day replace Mulkey as head coach. Mulkey was asked about that possibility recently.

“Obviously with her being an LSU person and playing here and all the things, you know, people are going to automatically think that,” Mulkey said. “But I think Seimone will quickly tell you she’s getting ready to learn from people who have been in the business a lot longer than her, things that I can’t teach her that they will teach her.”

For what it’s worth, Augustus herself was asked about becoming head coach at LSU, and she tried to downplay the idea, for now.

“I hope to be a head coach one day, but if it’s here, so be it,” Augustus said. “If not, obviously you see the expansion in the W. It would be great to go back. But day by day, that’s all.”

Mulkey just completed her third season at LSU. One year after winning the program’s first national championship, she guided the Tigers back to the Elite Eight.
