Hold that Tiger: Mason Taylor Commits to LSU

Tigers add a second tight end to the 2022 recruiting class

LSU added to its 2022 recruiting class Thursday evening with three-star tight end Mason Taylor out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

“It’s just the whole program and the history of them winning,” Taylor said in an interview with 247.”The coaching staff is also on me 24/7. I love the fans and the campus. I love the atmosphere and the stadium. It’s just a great all around school and it feels like the place to be for the next few years.”

Taylor, who attend St. Thomas Aquinas, is the second tight end to join LSU’s 2022 recruiting class. Taylor joins Jake Johnson the class of 2022’s No. 1 tight end prospect and Max Johnson’s younger brother. Taylor is deemed the No. 16 prospect in the cycle.

“They want to use me either off the hip or in the slot,” Taylor said in that same interview with 247. ”They said that I will have a chance to play early because I think they only have three scholarship tight ends and then when me and Jake get there, it might only be four. I’m excited.”

Taylor is referring to the recent departure of now former Tiger tight end Jalen Shead. Shead left the program after one day with LSU citing homesickness. Shead, from Olive Branch, Miss., never visited LSU last year due to COVID-19 recruiting restrictions.

Taylor comes from about as good a pedigree as you could hope for in a prospect. Taylor is the youngest son of hall of fame defensive end Jason Taylor, who dominated the NFL throughout the 2000s, played 14 seasons and spent the majority of his career with the Miami Dolphins where he was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2006.

With the addition of Taylor, LSU now has 16 commitments in its 2022 recruiting class. The class is currently ranked third nationally.
