The journey that this 2025 LSU baseball team began last August is nearing its end.

The Tigers are 27 outs away from their eighth national championship. They are on the precipice of history thanks to Kade Anderson pitching a complete game shutout. Most baseball programs would see a drop-off between its No. 1 and No. 2 pitchers, but the Tigers are blessed with its other ace, Anthony Eyanson, ready to take the mound and carry LSU across the finish line.

But while LSU is turning to its 1B, Coastal Carolina made a calculated risk and is throwing Jacob Morrison, their clear-cut No. 1 arm, with its season on the line. Morrison may not be the single best pitcher LSU’s faced all season, that’s probably Tennessee’s Liam Doyle, but with a 12-0 record and a dazzling 2.08 ERA he’s certainly as talented and as dominant as Kyson Witherspoon or Zach Root.

LSU’s seen arms like Morrison on a week-to-week basis. That’s life in the SEC. But Coastal Carolina hasn’t seen too many No. 1s like Kade Andersons, and they certainly haven’t seen too many No. 2s like Anthony Eyanson; and if Eyanson can get you six or seven innings with a lead, he can hand the ball to a fully rested Chase Shores or Casan Evans to get LSU across the finish line.

It’s been a fun baseball season with plenty of highs (like walking off Tennessee at 1:17 in the morning) and lows (being pushed to the brink of elimination by Little Rock.) Here’s hoping that come this evening LSU’s season reaches its apex and the Tigers are hoisting a trophy.
