Jump and White are headed for Atlanta
The future of the LSU to the MLB pipeline is alive and thriving, and there may soon be two more former greats getting called up to The Show.
Major League Baseball announced the rosters for this year’s All-Star Futures Game and former Tigers Gage Jump and Tommy White will both be heading to Truist Park in Atlanta to participate.
Jump and White are both part of the…well not Oakland anymore but West Sacramento A’s? Las Vegas A’s? Well whatever they’re called, Jump and White are part of the A’s organization. The two were taken fairly early in last summer’s draft: White just missed out on the first round, going 40th overall, but the club went over slot value and signed him to a $3 million deal; Jump, on the other hand, went 73rd overall, where the A’s made him their “Competitive Balance Round B” (whatever that means) pick. The A’s also went over slot value for Jump, giving him a $2 million signing bonus.
White is more of an LSU hero than Jump, but Jump is quietly having an outstanding start to his professional career. In fact, Jump is now viewed as the A’s No. 1 overall prospect in their farm system. Jump is pitching for the A’s Double-A Affiliate, the Midland Rockhounds and in 13 starts this season has an 8-3 record with a 2.09 ERA in 73 innings. He has 89 strikeouts and a WHIP just a tick under one (0.98). Jump is viewed as the No. 96 overall minor league prospect.
White, on the other hand, is with the club’s High-A Affiliate, the Lansing Lugnuts. In 48 games, White is batting .277 with nine home runs and 24 RBI. It looks like White’s having a rough go of things defensively with an .888 fielding percentage and 11 errors, so perhaps if/when he gets up to the Major Leagues he’ll be a first basemen or DH. At the time of this writing, White is viewed as the A’s No. 6 overall prospect. White was hitting .311 earlier this season, but in late May he lacerated his knee chasing a foul ball.
Per MLB.com, Jump and White’s ETA for the A’s is 2027. Who knows, maybe by then the A’s will finally be in their $1.75 billion Las Vegas stadium. They broke ground last week and the stadium is expected to be ready for Opening Day 2028.
The 2025 MLB Futures Game will be played at 3;00 on Saturday July 12. It will air live on MLB Network, and also simulcasts on MLB.TV and MLB.com.
