Former LSU head coach Will Wade could return to the SEC fairly soon.
According to Jeff Goodman of Stadium, Wade is “picking up some traction” as a potential candidate for the Ole Miss job.
“Another name picking up some traction for Ole Miss, per sources,” Goodman wrote. “Former LSU coach Will Wade. Again, like Beard, would be a risk – especially without NCAA investigation resolved. But he and Beard have track record of winning.”
Ole Miss announced on Friday that it’s parting ways with head coach Kermit Davis. He finished his tenure with a 74-79 record.
Wade isn’t the only name being mentioned for the job opening at Ole Miss. Former Texas head coach Chris Beard and Florida Atlantic head coach Dusty May could also be candidates for the gig.
Wade won 105 games in a five-year span for LSU. However, all that winning came with a lot of baggage.
LSU terminated Wade’s contract in March of 2022 after the NCAA formally served a Notice of Allegations. This was in regards to recruiting violations.
Wade could help Ole Miss get its basketball program back on track, but it would be considered a controversial hire.
