Angel Reese Admits She ‘Felt Bad’ For LSU Teammate Hailey Van Lith

September 9, 2024 by The Spun

The First Look At Hailey Van Lith In A TCU Uniform (0:48)

Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese officially launched her “Unapologetically Angel” podcast this week. It appears she was willing to talk about every subject surrounding her life over the past year.

Reese addressed rumors about her GPA, fired back at people who constantly criticize her game, and even had a few words to share about her rivalry with Caitlin Clark.

At one point, Reese opened up about her relationship with former LSU teammate Hailey Van Lith.

Van Lith transferred to LSU for the 2023-24 season after an incredible run at Louisville. Reese revealed that it took time for the talented guard to feel comfortable in Baton Rouge.

“We weren’t super close, but I was probably one of the closer people with her on the team,” Reese said. “I think she was really distant from everybody else. So I kind of felt bad, so was like let me get close to her and like see who she is, because she was the only white girl.”

“I didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable. I wanted her to feel as comfortable as she could being able to come into a situation where she had to transfer. She was super successful at Louisville. For a little while, she struggled with confidence in the beginning.”

Even though Reese had a good relationship with Van Lith off the court, she admit the left-handed scorer wasn’t a great fit for Kim Mulkey’s squad.

“Yeah, I just think it wasn’t a good fit for that specific team.”

Van Lith will try to redeem herself at TCU. The hope is she’ll get to run that offense without having to worry about a ton of star power around her.

As for Reese, she’s already an All-Star in the pros. All she has to do is keep building on her current success.
