LSU bolsters its secondary with a much-needed safety addition
LSU might have found the missing piece for its 2025 roster.
The Tigers reportedly added Houston safety AJ Haulcy out of the transfer portal Sunday evening. Haulcy was one of the highest-ranked players to enter the portal during the spring window and LSU beat out Ole Miss and Miami.
Originally from Houston, Haulcy began his collegiate career at New Mexico before transferring back home. For his career Haulcy has 259 tackles, 15 deflections, seven interceptions, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 36 games played. Haulcy earned First-Team All-Big 12 honors this past season.
LSU hasn’t had good safety play since Grant Delpit and Haulcy figures to be the missing piece for the Tiger secondary. Between Haulcy, Mansoor Delane, Tamarcus Cooley, Ja’Keem Jackson and incoming freshman DJ Pickett, LSU’s secondary, on paper at least, is about as talented as its been since Corey Raymond had DBU at its peak.
There’s no other way to put it: LSU’s going all in for 2025. The Tigers have the No. 1 portal class in America and it seems as though they’ve addressed every need. Brian Kelly said that the program needed to start spending if they want to be CFP contenders, and LSU’s putting its money where its mouth is.
Now Kelly has no more excuses if the Tigers underachieve this fall.
