Shelvin joins Burrow, Chase, and Moss in LSU: North
Defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin is the latest former Tiger to trade in his purple and gold stripes for black and orange, as Shelvin was picked by the Cincinnati Bengals 122nd overall.
Shelvin was once thought of as a potential first round pick but between questions about his weight, lack of pass rushing ability, and not putting any new film out in more than a year, he tumbled all the way to the fourth round.
To Shelvin’s credit, he did a good job keeping his weight in check. Shelvin weighed in at LSU’s pro day at 350 pounds, which was his playing weight during LSU’s 2019 national championship run. Shelvin has also talked about using his time away from LSU to work on honing his pass rushing ability.
Shelvin is the fourth former Tiger to join the Bengals, joining Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Thad Moss who was recently claimed off waivers.
Shelvin is also the fourth LSU player to be selected in the 2021 NFL Draft. Chase was picked in the first round on Thursday, Terrace Marshall was picked last night by the Carolina Panthers, and Jabril Cox went seven picks ahead of Shelvin, 115th overall to the Dallas Cowboys.
